Four hams are packing their suitcases for a DXpedition to Vanuatu, a small island nation between Australia and Fiji. Expect to hear them on the air from October 16 through October 29. They will be operating two high power stations.
The hams are John Schroeder, K4QQG / YJ0JS, from Hilton Head, SC; Nick Maslon, K1NZ / YJ0NZ, from Monson, MA; William "Savo” Savacool, K2SAV / YJ0SA from Schenectacy, NY; and Van Herridge, the team leader, N4VGE / YJ0VV from Charleston, SC. The QSL Manager is Nathan Wood, K4NHW / YJ0NW, who will oversee live uploads to Club Log and coordinate QSL cards.
Planning for this DXpedition started in 2022 with plans to concentrate on SSB and participate in the 2024 CQ WW SSB Contest on October 26-27 as a high power M2 designation using the callsign YJ0VV. In addition to operating from their main stations on the beach they will be activating up to three POTA locations. VU0003, VU0005, and VU0021 none of which have ever
been activated before.
The original cost estimates have been overshadowed and with the latest expense total of over $35,000 US. Team have set up a Go Fund Me page to help defray some of the costs.
