Today, Gerard F5NVF, arrived in Benin. He’s waiting on his license to be rubber-stamped, then will again be QRV as TY5C. Meantime, he’s assembling his new Spiderbeam (vertical) antenna.
[OCTOBER 29, 2024] –
Following on from the TY5C activity in March this year, Gérard F5NVF will again be QRV from Godomey, Benin during January 10 to April 2, 2025. He’ll be active mostly on 80-10m; CW & FT8, holiday- style using an IC-7000, 100w & wire antennas. QSL direct via F5RAV / free LoTW.
[MARCH 29] –
Since the last update, TY5C has doubled their QSO count. They are QRV until the end of March on various bands & modes, including QO-100. Draft QSL preview below and a short 17m CW recording from earlier today:
- [MARCH 17] – Approaching 25K QSOs (at 1200z today), the TY5C team continue to be very active. Thanks to Luc, F5RAV for providing a few pictures of their activity:

- [MARCH 15] – The complete team is now in Benin and activity also begins on SSB. Livestream is here – currently 22K QSOs in the log. Recording below of operator F5RAV.
- [MARCH 8] – Currently (2100z) over 12K QSOs in the TY5C log with an upload to LoTW taken place earlier today. Picture shows Gerard F5NVF operating.
- [MARCH 7] – Here’s Gerard, F5NVF teaching a future native Benin ham how to build up an antenna and analyse it ! So far TY5C has made 8400 QSOs using 60w and dipole antennas.
- [QRV] – Just to clarify that F5NVF is operating solo as TY5C from March 3 to 14 (SSB & CW), then 7X2TT & F5RAV will join him from March 14 to 29. Up to 4 stations running after the 14th, including FT8 and SATs.
- [PREVIOUSLY] – Gerard F5NVF, Abdel 7X2TT and Luc F5RAV will be active from Cotonou, Benin as TY5C for the month of March 2024. QRV on HF bands; CW, SSB, FT8 + SATs. They are looking for help and support for the local radio club station (TY0HQ). Get in touch with F5RAV if you can help.
