60th anniversary lottery at OH0AM in Aland Islands — OH0AM QRV this Saturday, August 10 through Sunday, August 11.
Meet the ops: OH2BH, OH2GEK, OH2MM and OH2TA at the controls of two simultaneous signals; CW/SSB and latest Digita, FT8 including the advanced Superfox.
It was sixty (60) years ago, August 1964, when OH-DX-RING, OH2AM/OH0AM/OJ0AM was registered by a young bunch of OHs. Their interest was for the whole wide world, to satisfy a desire to stand tall in DX and Contest dimensions of Amateur Radio.
Soon they captured tens of CQWW World Records in multi and single categories and activated new & rare DXCC entities in all corners of the world. The OH2AM group is credited with taking Amateur Radio in Finland international, into heights never seen before, well beyond what the country’s 5 million share of the world population would suggest.
So join the party, as each of your band/mode QSOs with OH0AM will bring you one lottery ticket. The prizes are ten (10) copies of the new exciting book that will be released in honor of OH2AM’s 60th anniversary.
Just send a note of your band/mode QSOs to oh2am60@gmail.com to participate in the lottery. Winners will be published on the day of the official release of the book, in the coming weeks.
New Book "Atlas Of QSL Cards” Launching Soon
The YL author, Ms Laura Piipari—daughter of the late OH2BBR, one of the OH2AM founders—will take radio amateur and non-amateur readers alike on a fascinating journey through the world of DX, guided by her dad’s valuable QSL card collection. The book is full-color, with 256 pages, and will be available on Amazon.
The book approaches DX through stories behind the radio operators and locations of the QSL cards. Top 45 Most Wanted DXCC entities and why they are rare are covered. DXpedition adventures serve as exciting and educational objectives for one’s DX hunt. Reasons for why certain locations rank high for DXCC are given, be it due to history, geography or political standings.
Have you ever tried to explain the excitement of a pileup to family members or colleagues, and seen them lost, their face one big question mark? Laura takes the bull by its horns, and clarifies pileups, contests and other key factors that make DX hunt an exciting, life-long Amateur Radio passion for many of us.
