[INFO] by Renato, PY8WW –
I’m currently (14:20 UTC) at Medellín Airport, waiting for my charter flight to Bahía Solano. I should arrive there around 16:30 UTC. From Bahía Solano Airport, I’ll take a taxi to the town of El Valle, about one hour away, where the boat is already waiting to take me to the island.
Once I arrive, my first task will be to set up the solar panels and the Eco-Flow power bank to ensure stable power for the entire operation. After that, I’ll start installing the DX Commander antennas on the beach.
The plan to be on the air around 20:00 UTC remains unchanged.
Thank you all for the kind messages and support — it’s a great pleasure to make this effort to activate such a rare and beautiful IOTA entity (SA-084).

[NOVEMBER 4] –
The HK4/PY8WW DXpedition is a special amateur radio operation from Island Playa Blanca, a rare IOTA (SA-084) located in Colombia by PY8WW (Renato). The expedition will occur during November 12 to 17, 2025, aiming to give IOTA hunters around the world a chance to contact a rare island group.
Operating on multiple bands (10–80 meters) in SSB, CW, and digital modes, the setup consists of:
— Yaesu FT-DX-10 and FT-710 transceivers.
— DX Commander vertical antennas with two configurations: one antenna for 10-15-20-40 and the other for 12-17-30-80.
The expedition begins on November 11th when PY8WW leaves Belém, Brazil, on a flight to Bogota, Colombia, making a quick connection to Medellin. The following morning, November 12th, he will take a chartered flight to Bahía Solano Airport (IATA code: BSC) on the Colombian Pacific coast. From Bahia Solano, travel for a few hours to the island of Playa Blanca, which is located in the Utria National Park. The expedition is expected to go live on the 12th around 20:00 UTC.
This expedition will use solar panels and an ecoflow power bank to store the energy generated during the day.
