So after waiting and planning all winter I finally got my FM Broadcast band antenna installed on my roof. The results are underwhelming... I am using a Pioneer SX-737 that works well audio wise, but definitely needs an alignment! Even a ribbon dipole on my SX-535 outperforms this, and when I put the dipole on the 737 it is just as dismal. So after multiple setbacks, like the first N-type socket I used breaking in half when I tightened the coax up on the roof, to my homemade balun being a dud, I am looking at doing an alignment and recapping my receiver board.
EDIT- I had the coax hooked up wrong. The clamp is actually the ground! I had the center lead touching the clamp. I guess they didn't have LMR-400 back in the 70s... Things are working much better, it is definitely very directional!
